Hello, my name is Reza. I have been working as a counsellor since 2012 and am originally from Iran. I speak Farsi and am comfortable working with Farsi speaking clients. I have worked with individuals, couples, families and therapy groups in a variety of settings. I have also worked very closely with refugees and have a unique insight into the refugee population. Recently I have been working in the area of anger management, as well as domestic and family violence, predominantly with men. However, I often take a family integrated approach and do not work through solutions in isolation. I gravitated towards this profession as I started to ponder the deeper questions about human existence and the purpose of life. Growing up in a strict religious family and culture, while having to follow religious rituals and practices drove me to question whether that is the way to ultimate happiness. It was not until when I was around twenty two that I stopped the habitual way of following the path of my parents’ religion and began to expand my knowledge about life. This created my desire to ask questions that I had not previously asked, and to move toward a more open way of thinking about life, the universe and what 'happiness' meant to me. That was the beginning of what I believe to be a lifelong journey of discovery, as I find happiness in this journey, it has become the destination. In my practice I focus on;- Being present and living in the moment- Acceptance, whatever that includes; whether it be painful thoughts or emotions- Mindfulness techniques which will make the above possible- Communication, especially in relationships, as this is the usually the problem - and solution - to many of the relationship issues that arise- Emotional regulation to better manage internal emotional states and behavioural reactions.
